The District water benchmarking shows that many buildings use 20-40% more water in the summer months. This increase in use, tracks with outdoor landscape irrigation. As much as 50 percent of the water used for outdoor landscape irrigation is wasted due to evaporation, wind, overspray, and poor system maintenance, according to the EPA.
