The Washtenaw 2030 District, in collaboration with the City of Ann Arbor’s Office of Sustainability and Innovations (OSI), has launched a new program designed to help commercial properties in Ann Arbor and throughout the County access the benefits of clean, renewable energy.
The program provides one-on-one assistance to screen properties for solar potential, assistance with designing and releasing a Request for Proposals to install a renewable system, support reviewing proposal responses, and reviewing of post-installation energy bills.
The A2 Area Commercial Solar Program is open to businesses and property owners in Washtenaw County.
The A2 Area Commercial Solar Program is a key component of the city’s A2ZERO carbon neutrality plan, which was unanimously adopted by Ann Arbor City Council June 1, 2020. To learn more about the city’s carbon neutrality work, visit www.a2zero.org.
Are you a nonprofit or tax exempt entity?
The Washtenaw 2030 District is serving as a host organization for two Elective Pay
Ambassadors, from October 2025 through November 2026. Our ambassadors, Kim
Heumann and Lissa Spitz, are responsible for this work in Livingston, Jackson,
Washtenaw, Hillsdale, Lenawee, and Monroe counties.
The Elective Pay Ambassador program was developed by the Michigan Infrastructure
Office Technical Assistance Center (MIO-TAC), to help bring federal funds to Michigan
tax-exempt entities for renewable energy projects. Non-profits, houses of worship, tribal
governments, school districts, municipalities, can receive Elective Pay reimbursement.
Energy projects such as geothermal, solar, battery storage and wind, as well as EV
chargers placed in service by 6/30/2026 are eligible for this funding, which can also be
stacked with other sources such as grants.
