Cleveland, Ohio – May 15, 2020 – On May 5, 2020 a unanimous vote of the Cleveland 2030 District Board of Directors elected Stephanie Drenten Ferro to assume the Board Chair position.
Stephanie Drenten Ferro has a passion for leading sustainable and resilient change. She is a Project Manager for Heapy’s Building Optimization Group (BOG) and is responsible for leading the Cleveland, Ohio BOG team. Since February of 2019, she has served on the Board of Directors of the Cleveland 2030 District.
As Board Chair, Stephanie is excited to utilize her experience working as an energy manager and believes these experiences are critical to understanding the challenges building owners and operators experience when setting and achieving their performance goals. She is also excited to share her knowledge in dealing with complex sustainability problems garnered while completing her Master of Philosophy in Engineering for Sustainable Development at the University of Cambridge, UK.
Her core background is in understanding the built environment, developed while completing her Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering at Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology. Stephanie is a Certified Energy Manager (CEM) and Commissioning Technician (CxT) and is currently developing a new process for preparing the reports shared with district member properties.
Ms. Drenten Ferro will fill the former role of Jill Ziegler, Director of Sustainability and Corporate Responsibility at Brookfield Properties, who has served as Board Chairperson since 2016. During her term, the organization grew from 40 million square feet to 60 million square feet of participating properties who, collectively, are running 25% below baseline in energy use, 20% below baseline in water consumption, and 25% below baseline in transportation emissions. Ms. Ziegler serves on the Board of Governors for the 2030 Districts Network, the North American oversight organization for all Districts, and will remain on the Cleveland 2030 District’s Board of Directors.
The Cleveland 2030 District is a non-profit 501(c)(3) working to create a high-performance building district to dramatically reduce the environmental impacts of building construction and operations. Properties participating in the 2030 District are committed to operational efficiency, reducing their energy and water use as well as CO2 emissions from transportation. The 2030 District’s goal is a 50% reduction in these three metrics by the year 2030 from prescribed baselines.
There are 22 Districts spread across North America with several more emerging. Cleveland was the second city to create a District and has been at the forefront of this movement.
