Beyond Reporting: Energy & Nature-based Solutions for Existing Buildings
Whether you are just beginning to benchmark your building or looking for your next performance improvement opportunity, this session will showcase practical strategies to reduce operating costs, improve resilience and enhance long-term asset value.
As more building owners begin benchmarking their energy performance, many are looking for practical ways to turn data into action. While energy efficiency often delivers the biggest operational savings, other improvements, such as better water management, native plant landscaping and increased tree canopy, can further strengthen building performance while improving resilience, and tenant community experience.
We’ll begin with an update on the Greater Victoria 2030 District’s Reporting to Results initiative and resources available to support participants. We’ll then explore practical site improvements, including nature-based solutions, that can help buildings manage heat, water and other climate impacts. Presentations from the Urban Native Plant Initiative, Reliable Controls and more will demonstrate how existing commercial properties can integrate these strategies to achieve multiple environmental and operational benefits. The morning concludes with networking and a guided tour of the Swan Lake Sanctuary.
