Summer Session: Building a Circular Economy in Cleveland

June 13, 2023 @ 1:00 pm - 2:00 pm UTC+0

The circular economy reduces waste and pollution, keeps products in use longer and regenerates nature.  In this session, we’ll be introduced to Circular Cleveland, explore the benefits of a circular economy and provide examples of a circular and sustainable built environment. From a commercial building perspective, we’ll hear the details of the construction and use of the new Cleveland Foundation building in MidTown. This mass timber building was built with environmental stewardship and a connection to the community in mind. We’ll also learn about a local architectural firm’s work with NASA and MIT, their research to develop building materials (bioterials) made from mycelium and their extensive humanitarian efforts through construction projects.

Speakers:

Cathi Lehn, City of Cleveland

Stephen Love, Cleveland Foundation

Chris Maurer, redhouse studio
