Sarah Barden to Speak on March 19<\/strong><\/p>\n

Sarah Barden, the community outreach and leasing coordinator at SouthWorks, will be the featured speaker at the upcoming.quarterly meeting of the Ithaca 2030 District.<\/p>\n

In her role with Shift Capital LLC Sarah is supporting the development of the SouthWorks neighborhood in Ithaca, which encompasses over 900 housing units and extensive commercial space<\/p>\n

Previously, Sarah served as the director of community initiatives at the Tompkins County Chamber of Commerce..<\/p>\n

Sarah will share progress on the SouthWorks project and what to expect in the near future. “After many years of environmental remediation and concurrent planning processes,” she says, “we are finally poised to begin site activation.”<\/p>\n

SouthWorks is a $587 million project that seeks to revitalize a 95-acre industrial site on South Hill that has sat vacant for decades. The goal is to renovate and redevelop the factory site on South Hill into a mixed-use neighborhood of workplaces, homes, and community spaces.<\/p>\n

The Tompkins County Industrial Development Agency (IDA) this past October approved a nearly $85 million 20-year tax abatement for the development project.<\/p>\n

During 2025, according to Barden, SouthWorks will welcome its first tenant to the site (an antique mall), begin renovations to support two additional tenants (a daycare and a construction incubator), design its sitewide infrastructure\u00a0upgrades with the goal of becoming Net Zero Ready.<\/p>\n
