SUMMARY:CAAP Engagement Event - Commercial and Industrial Buildings
DESCRIPTION:Do you design\, develop\, own\, manage\, or operate a commercial or industrial building in the city of Grand Rapids? E.H.Zero’s Commercial Climate Advisory Team (C-CAT)\, in partnership with the City of Grand Rapids\, the Grand Rapids 2030 District\, the Community Collaboration on Climate Change\, and the Sustainable Business Forum\, invites you to identify and prioritize strategies and actions for inclusion in the Commercial Buildings chapter of the City of Grand Rapids Climate Action and Adaptation Plan (CAAP). This chapter will include strategies and action items that will reduce energy consumption/GHG emissions and increase climate resilience for commercial and industrial businesses located in the city of Grand Rapids. \nAt this event\, City staff and partners will review a draft of the Commercial Building chapter of the CAAP\, which the C-CAT helped create and includes strategies to: \n\nCreate and sustain the infrastructure\, information and engagement needed to reduce energy and emissions from commercial buildings\nReduce existing commercial building energy consumption\nEnsure the design and construction of high-performing commercial buildings that are low to zero-emissions\nSupport on-site installation or procurement of renewable energy systems (included in the Energy chapter of the CAAP)\n\nWe will also discuss the best way to embed the CAAP’s key themes of equity\, economic prosperity\, health\, resilience and collaboration in the Commercial Buildings Chapter. \nOur goal is to engage as diverse of an audience as possible; please limit registration to no more than two representatives from the same organization. \nLunch will be provided. \nRegister Here.

SUMMARY:WEBINAR – Embodied Carbon 101\, Healthy Building Webinar Series
DESCRIPTION:The built environment is a large contributor to global carbon dioxide emissions at 42% of the total. Embodied carbon\, or the carbon from building materials\, accounts for 11% of global emissions (Architecture 2030). Join Kelsey Wotila\, Senior Sustainability Project Manager at Foresight Management to learn more about embodied carbon\, available tools\, and how to analyze it for your projects. No matter your level of understanding of embodied carbon\, this webinar is for you. \nIn this webinar you will learn: \n\nThe difference between embodied and operational carbon.\nWhy embodied carbon is critical in decarbonization and the Architecture 2030 interim targets for reduction.\nThe tools can help design teams lower the embodied carbon of buildings and when to use them in the design process.\nThe common challenges to lowering the embodied carbon of buildings and how to overcome them.\n\nPanelists: \nKelsey Wotila – Senior Sustainability Project Manager\nForesight Management \nRegister here.

Phius is driven by carbon neutrality and improving the standard of building construction. Phius updated its standard in 2021 to meet stringent efficiency and carbon neutrality goals to make buildings the building block of the 21st century electrical grid: resilient\, digitized\, distributed\, and interactive. \nIn this webinar\, Katrin (Kat) Klingenberg\, Executive Director & Co-Founder Phius\, and Doug Farr\, President of Farr Associates Architecture and Urban Design\, will walk us through the Passive house certification process\, commercial building examples\, and how green & healthy building certifications should work together and not be siloed. \nSpeaker Bios \nKat’s home sparked considerable interest and she went on to found Phius\, dedicated to making passive building a mainstream best practice. She developed and delivered building-science based training in how to design and build energy efficient and zero energy buildings. Over the past ten years she has collaborated with federal and state governments’ agencies to tailor the Phius Standard for each of the nine US and ASHRAE’s global climate zones—that adaptation cost-optimized passive building and has driven widespread adoption. She has consulted on projects nationally and internationally. \nDoug is a nationally-recognized architect\, urbanist\, and author. He leads Chicago-based Farr Associates\, a pioneering\, sustainability-driven architecture and urban design firm that plans and designs lovable and aspirational buildings and places. The firm was recognized by the New York Times as “the most prominent of the city’s growing cadre of ecologically sensitive architects.” The firm prides itself on its pioneering “firsts” in high-performance buildings in the Chicago region including LEED Platinum\, PHIUS Net Zero\, and LBC.  In 2020 Doug launched Carbon Free Chicago\, a 30-year campaign for the equitable transition away from fossil fuels. In 2022 Doug Co-Curated the ENERGY REVOLUTION exhibit at the Chicago Architecture Center\, which closes January 10th\, 2023 \nRegister by clicking here.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
