DESCRIPTION:The Cleveland Foundation recently completed the 98\,000 square foot MidTown Collaboration Center just across the street from their mass timber headquarters building at E. 66th and Euclid Ave.  The Center aims to bring together diverse sectors under one roof to foster new collaborations and partnership opportunities that center around community.  We’ll tour this building learning about its sustainable attributes and follow it with a happy hour afterward at their music venue The Sixty6 with live entertainment\, along with food from onsite Pearl’s Kitchen and beverages from Black Frog Brewery. \nThe tour will start promptly at 4:30 and run to 5:30 PM.  Happy hour from 5:30 to 6:30 PM. \nThere is no fee for this tour but a donation is always appreciated. \nTHANKS TO OUR EVENT SPONSOR MACMILLAN AND CO. The project stands out for conserving energy\, managing water\, and fostering a healthy indoor environment. \nKey Features\n\nLEED Silver Certification: Commitment to sustainability.\nHigh-Performing Design: Optimized building envelope and HVAC system.\nEnergy Efficiency: LED lighting and daylighting reduce energy use.\nReflective Roofing Materials: Lower cooling loads.\nElectric Vehicle Charging: Eight EV chargers installed.\nWater Conservation: Low-flow plumbing fixtures.\nNative Landscaping: No irrigation needed after plant establishment.\nImproved Indoor Air Quality: Better ventilation and low VOC materials.\n\nThe campus includes a 500-seat Performing Arts Center\, two gymnasiums\, and a cafeteria\, all part of a central “Community Hub” open for public events. The Wickliffe Family Resource Center partners with Signature Health to offer vital services for Lake County families. \nThis project achieved a 22% reduction in energy use from baseline values\,  which equates to over $50\,000 per year in savings. Water use was reduced by 35% by using efficient plumbing fixtures. Native plants and bioswales reduce the need for outdoor irrigation. DESCRIPTION:Our area has a combined sewer system. That means during strong storms\, sewage can overflow and contaminate Lake Erie.  We have a responsibility to protect our lake.  Northeast Ohio Regional Sewer District has made significant strides in addressing this overflow\, including a Green Infrastructure Grant that funds initiatives that install bioswales\, cisterns\, permeable pavers\, vegetated roofs\, and other projects that reduce runoff into the sewer system. \nWe will take a walk through University Circle to visit exemplary projects that have successfully mitigated water runoff. Included will be the Green Building Challenge winning project in the water management category: University Circle\, Inc.’s permeable pavers.
