He also chairs the Washtenaw 2030 District House of Worship (HoW) and Non-Profit Green Team. He is currently the Board President of Solar Faithful and the Immediate Past President of the combined Episcopalian and Reform Jewish HoWs known as Genesis of Ann Arbor. Murray is Past President of NSF Toastmasters, an Area Director for Toastmasters and has earned the Advanced Toastmaster Gold award. He also co-facilitates a NAMI (National Alliance for Mental Illness) support group. He is best known professionally for helping to invent the first commercial Hemoglobin A1c test, which is used to monitor and diagnose diabetes. \nJan has been part of the Washtenaw 2030 District since it launched as the Ann Arbor 2030 District in 2018. The district has expanded to serve Washtenaw County and evolved to the Washtenaw 2030 District. Through close collaboration with the City of Ann Arbor\u2019s Office of Sustainability and Innovation and Washtenaw
\nCounty\u2019s Resiliency Officer, the District supports decarbonization of municipal, multifamily, and commercial buildings.
\nJan is also active in Scio Township serving as Chair of the Planning Commission and leads the Environmental Sustainability Task Force. Jan advocates at the state level for the architectural profession and the environment as the Co-Chair of AIA Michigan\u2019s Government Advocacy Committee. \nJason is the Facilities Management Director at Washtenaw County. He has been with the Facilities department for over 21 years serving in a variety of roles on both the construction and operational side of the Facilities department. He was involved in the County\u2019s first LEED projects and launched the first internally focused energy and sustainability program back in 2012.
\nJason has a bachelor\u2019s degree in construction management from Northern Michigan University, he also achieved the Certified Facilities Manager (CFM) designation from the International Facilities Management Association. His professional goals include providing the most sustainable, effectively build and operated facilities for the various county departments, key partners, and county citizens. He is also looking forward to the challenge of electrification of the county\u2019s buildings and fleet. \nHe is a member of the Southeast Michigan Council of Governments (SEMCOG) Transportation Coordinating Council and meets with the informal Ann Arbor Climate Partnership. My previous life included 35+ years in architecture with a focus on sustainability. I\u2019m also an artist who would usually rather be outside, walking in the woods or biking.
\nI\u2019m finding my work with the 2030 District to be both exciting and challenging. The biggest challenge is trying to reach people who are likely to be interested in our resources but are so time crunched that it\u2019s difficult for them to participate. I\u2019m energized by working with the district because it\u2019s tangible local action that needs to be taken. Kim earned a Master’s of Environment and Sustainability from UM SEAS in 2023. Receiving her degree launched her into serving two terms as a MI Healthy Climate Corps\/Fellow, most recently with the Washtenaw County Resiliency Office. Her time working in local government on climate impacts and building resilience has been a driver in wanting to help communities and organizations move forward on their climate mitigation and adaptation goals. With some background in design, Laurel occasionally gives graphic support to the team. \nKaren holds a Master\u2019s degree in Community Development from the University of Detroit Mercy. Her career in community engagement includes notable work as a W.K. Kellogg Intern with EcoWorks Detroit, where she helped to establish, implement, and expand the Eco-D program\u2014a neighborhood sustainability model focused on equity, resilience, and climate protection.
\nWith a diverse background spanning nonprofits, small businesses, and education, Karen brings a broad skill set and a knack for problem-solving to her work. Her experience includes over 20 years as a banquet server, including seven years at the prestigious Detroit Athletic Club, as well as teaching and coaching students from elementary school to medical residents.
